Welcome to the Reference Center
The GLO - Eastern States Office is the custodian of millions of title documents, maintaining and protecting the Secretary of the Interior's official copies of over 9 million GLO records. These records are considered vital to the core responsibilities of the BLM. Some of these records date from the late 1700's.

The General Land Office Automated Records Project is responsible for making these important documents available to the public. The documents are scanned and indexed, and then the originals are stored in acid-free boxes, protected in fireproof, temperature-controlled vaults. This ensures the preservation of this vital component of American heritage. Access to the resulting data and images is provided on this website. We have a variety of documents available, and we are continually adding to it. Currently we have various Patents, Survey Plats, Field Notes and Land Status Records.

The Reference Center is designed to help you search and decipher our images and data. Here, you can learn about the various documents that we maintain, as well as get tips on how to efficiently search for the records you are looking for. Our Appendices contain a wealth of supporting information, including a glossary and FAQ.
